More bad news for Sony, a founding member of the Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG Big 4 Organized Music gang.It looks as though it’s missed its global shipment target, “and been beaten in its home market by rival Nintendo’s surprise hit Wii video game system, new figures show,” says Associated Press.

Nintendo quietly flexes its muscles

Today, the company increased its earnings forecast for fiscal year 2007 by 20 percent. The new guidance points to net income of 120 billion yen (about $1 billion) and 900 billion yen ($7.6 billion) of revenues. Last year, Nintendo managed profits of 98 billion yen, or $830 million, on 509 billion Yen ($4.3 billion) in net sales.

Apparently the Japanese console consumers are sinking their teeth into the modest Wii and are not as interested in the power-packed PS3. In fact, the Wii is outselling Sony’s new console by a factor of almost 2:1.
